Hit In The Face

This morning was like any other morning. I woke up and walked down the stairs to check the surf, and then I sat down to go on my computer. Shortly after that I received a message that changed the course of my morning and approach to the day. A wake up call, a punch that hit me right in the face. A mutual friend Eric that I had the opportunity to go to Russia with sent me a message explaining that one of the young girls at the tuberculosis center we volunteered at named Nastya had a tragic event happen to her and her two siblings. Just recently she witnessed her father murder her mother. The three of them are currently in shock of what they had to witness at such a young age. They are heavily burdened and distraught. I sat there with this for a while and let it soak in. I began to look around my life, I began to look at what Iv'e been blessed with, I began to notice the small things that I take for granted. I began to grow weary in pain for this young girl. Then I began to open my Bible. I turned to the first book in James, and was amazed to find this. James 1:27 "Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and father is this: to visit orphans and widow in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world". This story of Nastya is sad, but what is even more sad is that she is not alone in her distress. During the upcoming christmas season be thankful for what you have and be sure to spend time in prayer for the restless, the broken, and the orphans and widows around the world.

Here is a link to raise money for Nastya and her two siblings. The proceeds go towards the funds needed to help her get adopted by her aunt and uncle. It also shows as an example to Nastya that there are people around the world who care for her.

As for now.

As for now... in this exact point in time I am sitting in an airport.. I recently came from a trip to Spain, Italy, and France... It was loads of fun and I will upload more photos soon.

My trip back to Cyprus was a long one.. I flew from Paris, France to Madrid, Spain.. In Madrid I attempted to sleep alone in the airport. The next morning at 7am I flew to Brussels, Belgium. Once I got to Belgium I got on another flight to Larnaca, Cyprus where last night I again attempted to sleep in the airport. I have gotten quite good at being happy with little sleep. I am currently waiting until 3am to check in for my flight back to California. I have been waiting since I got to Cyprus yesterday.. So as you can imagine I have had a lot of time on my hands lately being in three airports alone for the past three days.. With this time I finished a book, finished writing to the end of my journal, and now I am attempting to blog.

With the time I also did some calculations of my last 5 months...

In the past 5 months I have...

Visited 16 countries, 3 times to France and 2 times to Italy.

Visited 36 cities.

Flown in 25 airplanes.

Stayed in 29 hostels/ hotels.

Gone on 25 tours.

Used 4 different currencies.

Slept 4 nights in an airport.

Rode in a countless number of buses, trains, and taxis.

Have been inspired indefinitely.

---As for now I will carry this experience with me wherever I go.. I will use this inspiration back home, and with that I will see to it that my everyday life may never become mundane.

I'm a-leavin' tomorrow, but I could leave today,
Somewhere down the road someday.
The very last thing that I'd want to do
Is to say I've been hittin' some hard travelin' too. ---Bob Dylan

The final trip part 2

Wednesday, May 25

The final trip.

So far, the trip has been great. My family was able to come to Cyprus where we went cliff jumping, cave swimming, and boat riding. Then we left for Spain where my parents had one last day with me. It was spent trying to see as much of Barcelona as possible, which ended up being quite a lot! My parents left and my friend Mike arrived. Since then it was me, my sister, and my friend Mike. Barcelona was loud, beautiful, and fun. Once we were there for about a week Mike and I had to say goodbye to my sister as we headed south for Seville. This is where I am at as of now and have been for the last few days. However, tonight we our on another plane back to Barcelona where we will head further north to Girona. Im stoked for it, its been good times so far. My brother and two other good friends named Travis and Tony arrive in four days. It has and will continue to be a great last leg of my journey abroad as we will continue to enjoy Spain, then Italy, and then France.

Well since this is goodbye..

This post is for those friends I have met while studying abroad. It's thursday afternoon, which means that tomorrow I must say my goodbyes. The past few days i've been thinking back to when I first sat in the airport in LA waiting to leave for Cyprus. I had no idea what the future held, no idea who I would encounter along the way, no idea that I would ultimately make friends that I will forever hold dear to me. Im beginning to realize, as my days with all of you wind down, that what we have all shared has been truly remarkable. We are a group of individuals with a wide variety of backgrounds with a wide variety of personalities. We are a motley crew, but were still a crew. Now that this voyage is ending I need you guys to realize one thing. All of you are loved by a God that is bigger than you and I can ever comprehend. It is hard to comprehend how big God is when there is terror in your life, when there is pain and suffering in the world, and even whenever life seems completely in place. He is a God that is present in both the happy and the sad. I hope that you begin to realize this throughout your life just as I attempt to get a better realization of it each and every day. I realize that not everybody in this program is a believer in Jesus. I realize that some people may never end up believing in Jesus. Whatever the case I pray that you at least take the opportunity to seek God out. I will greatly miss each and every person I have met on this trip. It has truly been a fun and exciting adventure. Keep the adventure alive when you head home. Each and every day there are opportunities for adventure. They may not be as easy to find in your daily routine lifestyles but they are still there if you search hard enough. As for me I will be living my life one day at a time. It is crucial at times to look back and seek out what you have learned along the way, but it is also crucial to realize that the present is far more important. What you do with today can determine what the next day brings. You all have truly been inspiring to me and I know I will realize just how much inspiration I have been given when I return home. Many folks don't think I will miss them at all, but I have already started to miss you. You are all very unique and special and I hope you are able to channel those qualities to do great things. Our paths will cross again one day and I will be stoked to see you. I will be excited to see what God has been doing in your lives. Keep your heads up and your eyes wide open because this life has opportunities that many don't ever take. Through getting to know you guys this semester I can tell that you are people who will take these opportunities and Im stoked to be able to honestly say that about you. I love you all very much, we have shared too much together. We have shared so much that it will be impossible to completely shut each other out of of our lives. You will always be the people I shared this once in a lifetime experience with and Im stoked that it was you. I truly couldn't have asked for a better group of people to share this with. So I wanted to write this for you, as a small way to say thank you:)

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.-- Jeremiah 29:11
